Friends, it’s that time of year when we here at Cannabis Musings phone it in and look back at my predictions for 2023, rather than providing new analysis. Kind of like when your favorite, long-running sitcom aired a clip show.
But first, a periodic reminder that Cannabis Musings offers Ask the Law-Talking Guy to paid subscribers, which gives you the ability to ask a question and get it answered in front of a live studio audience. You can find out more information about Ask the Law-Talking Guy here. To my mild surprise, I put out recently my initial request for questions to paid subscribers, and got bubkes in terms of publishable questions.
So, join your fellow readers and feel free to pay for a subscription ($5/month – cheap!) out of the goodness of your heart, even if you don’t want to ask a question (which, apparently, no one else does…). I mean, you could give me a tip for teaching you obscure Yiddish aphorisms, or you could give a tip to your gas station pump.
I made quite a few predictions about the industry over the past twelve months, mostly at the beginning of January, but also throughout the year in specific newsletters. Long-term readers of these Cannabis Musings (we’re at least five-years-old) will remember that I like to say that making predictions in this industry is farkakteh, and yet we still engage in the practice. But without predictions, we wouldn’t have an excuse to engage in even more frivolous pursuits such as seeing if we were right.
Medium-term readers will remember that the 2022 recap was presented in sonnet form. This year, we’re going with villanelle (kindly mind the lack of meter).
Whither the Feds? Heed the industry’s "oy gevalt!" Deliver unto us greener pastures. SAFE? SAFER? Yea, it remains unloved. We grasp at the glorious tendrils of Schedule III. Whither the Feds? Interstate commerce ne'er got its day in court. States widened the berth, yet Georgia’s tuchas got spanked. Deliver unto us greener pastures. Capital, o capital, you remain as elusive as a boiled kreplach. Uplisting indeed failed to rise up the sluice. Whither the Feds? Distressed M&A truly wasn’t the vibe. Extend-and-pretend and hand over the keys seized the day. Deliver unto us greener pastures. The hemp battle rages on whilst the FDA and DEA shlump. We yearn for the Farm Bill’s crystalline clarity that never emerged. Whither the Feds? Deliver unto us greener pastures.
Be seeing you!
